Hi Nancy.
I've only split a strep 3 times. One died but that was more due to
a complete mess of repotting the division than the fact that it
was divided. (Never do plant stuff at 3am..) 
I don't know what the plural is. Streptocarpi? 'Cape primroses' is
easier.:)
