Introduction from new subscriber

Hello everyone,

My wife and i have just moved into our new house (actually moved in
June/July 96)
and are now getting settled enough to start considering indoor plants. This
really falls under two categories for us.

One is for plants which are better grown indoors when your normal climate is
hot and humid as it is here in Houston, TX where I live. Some of the
plants we
have tried to grow indoors are ferns (my wife seems to have a knack for
killing
them) and certain Aroids. We are interested in expanding to Cacti and
succulents and our latest addition to our potted plants is a nice Jade Plant
(Crassula). Also we have the facilities to do some propogation from seeds.
 I
have a fishroom with a broken fish tank which has no water but has a nice
flourescent strip light in which I was going to set up peat pots and grow
Chile
pepper seedlings and other plants from seed.

The other is the plants which we have in containers which do well in our
normal
growing season (USDA zone 9a; Sunset zone 28) Upper Texas Gulf Coast, which
normally falls between Feb 15-March 1 and ends Dec. 1- Dec. 15. The question
or situation regarding these plants is overwintering them in the house and in
the garage. The types of plants include peppers, scented geraniums, croton,
a "Root Beer" plant, some cultivars of Basil, mints, Bee Balm and Lemon Balm;
Cuban Oregano and other herbs.

I am looking forward to reviewing questions and offering experiences and being
rewarded by some beautiful house plants.
