Dear Keith,
A group of us who belonged to the Hoya Society out of Oregon got
together and did a group order from a Nursery in Australia. They even
listed orchids, along with their dischidias & hoyas but it took over a
year for the plants to come out of shock of shipping and the reversed
seasons. I can't remember the name of the nursery but I think if you
know anybody who is in the Hoya Society out of Oregon, they can tell
you. The flowers are nondescript, little white balls and I grow the
plants for their uniqueness. I would not suggest growing in a pot
unless you used a mix that was fast-draining (they are used to growing
like your orchid on a stick, up on trees); Now here's an idea for you,
if you don't have a greenhouse, you can make yourself an indoor
greenhouse by using 2 X 4's and stapeling plastic over it. Make it in
the shape of a big box and put it beside a window. I have a friend who
grows her orchids that way & it seems to work. Since they are inside,
she can spray them every once in a while and I think she has even used a
small humidifier in it to produce humidity constantly. I think she
leaves one side of the box open, the side closest to the window. Hope
this helps. A fellow-dischidia grower, Judy Showers (Pennsylvania)
