[INDOOR-GARDENING:421] Bromeliads

Does anyone have any experience with getting an Aechmea Fasciata purpurea to 
flower ?
I bought a single plant at a local greenhouse 2 years ago. It has since 
become 4 very large urns but none of them have flowered. I tried putting it 
in a plastic bag with a cut up apple and the only thing that happened was 
that the apple got moldy. I know that I need to divide this baby, but I'm a 
coward. will it flower if I get up the courage to do this?    Sharon
