How long before Amaryllis "does something?"

Hi all, 
Maybe I'm just overanxious but, I planted 2 huge Amaryllis bulbs (one already
had roots growing from it about 2in long) 3 days ago and watered well, put
gravel around tops, etc.  So far, nothing....

How long before I know if they'll grow or go...
