critters

I have a Dieffenbachia (wish I knew it was poisonous)  I found these tiny 
brownish critters on the leaves.  They look like teeny weeny ants.  I 
washed the leaves under running water.  The next day, saw a few more and 
washed the leaves again.  This am, I didn't see any but really didn't take 
a good look.  What are these?
