Bleeding Hearts

Hi All:

        A while back someone mentioned that they had been a bleeding heart
plant and wanted to know how to take care of it.  I'm going to be receiving
a bleeding heart root in the next few weeks, and also would like to know if
anyone knows how to grow them.  

        I'd like to grow it in a container outside instead of the yard,
because we live near the ocean and the soil is all sand.  Being a 99%
indoor plant person I don't want to mess with getting in mulch, etc (don't
know how, and don't have a car).  Any advice?
