Re: Avocado

Hi Keith, Linda, et. al.
I grew such an avocado while living on the tundra of Alaska. Living in
Alaska provided the amount of light necessary to allow it to grow into a
large tree. The pinching of the growing bud should only be done when you
have several leaves showing (although it will strike when in a leafless
state) as this will allows the trunk to become bigger (more girth) in order
to hold up under the weight; otherwise, you end up with an Avocado vine.
Linda, I would suggest that you carefully peel the brown membrane from the
seed before you put it in either water or soil, but, remember, not all
Avocado pits will sprout.
