Re: Avocado


I've always had luck **STARTING** avocados (the first one I've tried here in
Pittsburgh was the victim of a neighbor kid).  Make sure the fruit is REALLY
ripe before you put it in water.  I've also heard that if you start them
directly in soil or potting compound they do great.  I've got one now (in
water, in my kitchen window) that has a root a couple inches long.  Gonna
replant it in soil, take it to work, and see if it lasts the winter in a
sunny southern window!  They're beautiful plants, even if I can't get them
big enough to produce!
