Dear Sujan,
Does S. hirsuta have flowers this huge, but differently patterned?
I have the book _Fun with Growing Odd and Curious Houseplants_ by George
and Virginie Elbert, and in it they feature a sequence of photos of a huge
stapelia flower opening. I will look it up when I get home tonight, and
see if they call it S. gigantea, or S. hirsuta. I would guess that there
is only one species with flowers 11" accross, wouldn't you?
The photos are neat. They propped the bud up on an overturned
clay pot, to make it easier to both observe and photograph. Then, they
would sometimes invite people over to watch the bud open! It
happened quickly (relatively speaking; it opened over the span of a
couple of hours, I believe).
