I've been growing my Oxalis outdoors every summer for the past 5 years, and
over-wintering it in a cool laundry room.
A couple of weeks ago I stopped watering and when the stems started drooping
& drying, I cut them off as close to soil level as possible. I give it a
light watering before placing in a plastic bag (left open) and then into a
cardboard box (with slits, that bulbs were shipped in).
This sits in the laundry room until Spring -- when the "bulbs" sprout, even
in the dark. Then I take it out and grow as usual. I find that I don't lose
any of the "bulbs" to drying out when I leave them in the pot.
The Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) have been drying out in a sunny window indoors.
Leaves are cut off when brown, and then it's wait, wait, wait until new
growth begins -- usually in March.
