hoyas

Does anyone know the trick to getting hoyas to bloom? I have a big old one
(probably carnosa, but with variegated leaves and purple-brown flowers) that
last sent out flowers seven years ago. Its light exposure diminished
dramatically during the summer (I forgot how much the trees block when they
leaf out). Would I stand a better chance of getting blooms if I put it
outside next summer, in bright indirect light? Or will that harm the leaves?
Also, I've got two minis, lacunosa, I got about six months ago from
Glasshouse Works, and they've never bloomed either. They're under a 40-watt
fluorescent bulb in an obstructed east window. Do you know what kind of
fertilizer is best? (I'm embarrassed to admit that sometimes I use leftover
African violet fertilizer, 3-12-6.) Someone once directed me to the Hoya
Society site, and it has lovely photos but didn't have that much useful
cultural information. Thanks in advance, Nancy Stedman
