Don't know much about plants (that's why I lurk here!) but I know computers
/ mail lists...The reason you get "name not found" is because the list
processor just takes the messages that you post to the list and sends them
out to everyone on the list. Then, just like your e-mail program, it sends
back a report of any errors. So, it's probably trying to send to someone
that subscribed to the list, then changed or cancelled their e-mail
account. The list administrator needs to manually remove that subscriber
from the list.
Now, I suppose I need to throw in a plant question! As I said, I have just
recently decided that I don't want to be a houseplant killer any more and
am trying to learn how to nurture my plants. I have a Schefflera that was
doing okay, not spectacular, in low light. Then I figured out that these
things thrive in brighter light and moved it to a place that has bright
diffused light. (My wife won't let me move it outdoors, as she feels there
will be shock moving it from our air-conditioned home into the 95 degree
heat we get every day in Texas). I've also been misting it twice daily to
give it the humidity that my air conditioning deprives it of. Well, it
dropped all its leaves, then started growing like crazy at the top! It has
one branch at the bottom that is still doing quite well, so now it looks
like a botanical version of a french poodle with a VERY VERY bad haircut.
I think it will bend over double if I try to air layer it. Any advice
regarding how to make this plant look presentable (and not kill it)? I may
want to re-pot it also, as it is in a 12-inch pot even though there's only
one plant, and I potted it before I was aware of the concept of drainage.
I have an urge to chop the stem up, stick it in rootone, and pot the stem
cuttings right alongside the main plant. I hesitate to do that because
that might just be the evil plant-killer Tom trying to break free.
Any advice will help to stop me before I kill again!
Thanks,
Tom
