Tropical hibiscus? I'm sure, since I presume these are potted, you'll
prune carefully using sharp, clean tools and cutting just above an "eye"
or node. The four hibiscus in front of our house were just "whacked back"
and with many of the common garden varieties that's okay. However, these
were not the common ones and two of the four are probably going to die
all the way back to hibiscus heaven.
Sometimes, if the cut is not clean and made too far from a node, the wood
will continue to die back down past that node and eventually kill the
plant.
