FW: Nepenthes(?)

Oops, my reply went straight to Sujan, and missed the list. Here's a
forwarded copy, just in case I inadvertently said something important!

Our Home Depot's and Builders Squares down here have trays and trays of
these things at $4 apiece for a 2.5" pot. How much did you pay? They look
like they've been there for awhile and I'm waiting for the price to drop
and grab some, hopefully for 59 cents or so!!! I used to keep Venus'
Flytraps, Sundews, Butterworts, and Pitcher Plants in an aquarium when I
was a kid, and mine didn't make it through a Massachusetts winter, either.
I'm now a grown-up (allegedly) and am hoping to have success here in
Austin, TX. You have to be almost a soil scientist (is that an
agronomist???) to maintain the proper pH and acidity, as well as keeping it
moist at all times, and warm and bright. Basically, you have to re-create
the swamp that it wants to live in. I found that mine did much better with
bugs than they did with bits o' burger, maybe the wiggling stimulated the
enzymes. Since I was 10 or 11 years old, I had no problem going out back
and rounding up all sorts of bugs! Sorry I don't have any better advice
for you, but if you check out the list of gardening resources at
     http://www.prairienet.org/garden-gate/sunroom.htm
there is a list of special interest groups, including one or two for
insectivorous plants. Let us know!
