Hi Keith,
Great to hear from you, I have some info for you on the Asclepiad society.
Have you ever been to the Asclepiad Page? If not, here's the address,
www.graylab.ac.uk/usr/hodgkiss/asclep.html
There is an email address to get info on joining.
About the Hoya societies and which one to join. They are both real good. One
has been around a lot longer HSI, the other one is IHA international hoya
assoc. If you recieve issues from HSI then you are very aware that a lot of
time is spent by the editor being very opionionated about a lot of things and
people. She is very knowledgable about hoyas, but you just have to look past
some things if you know what I mean. The other one is good too, very nice
people and very helpful, they both are. They both have a chat that you can
join if you belong to the societies which you get a lot of good info from.
I don't know Eva Karin, I did inquire into the Swedish hoya society but was
told that it wasn't in English. She does belong to the PDL or chat that I was
telling you about from HSI. There was a real good article that she wrote for
the Fraterna (the other hoya society, IHA) It was about meeting Dale k. and
Ted G. and others on the collecting trip. When you say that she sent you a
list of her hoyas, did you get to order from her or was it just and info
list. I am always looking for new places to order from.
You sound like you have a wonderful collection of Stapliads, the ones that I
have I don't know what they are called, but I sure enjoy them. The one has a
huge flower, yellow with maroon hairs and about 12-14" across. Big flower and
stunk up the end of the livingroom big time! The flies pollinated it and a
seed pod formed but then died. I also have a little one that has 2 buds on it
but hasn't bloomed before, I am told by my husband who got this from a
customer of his(he works for sears service) anyway this plant had lots of
open flowers on it and he said unless you put your face right down in there
you didn't really smell anything. Nothing like my other one. And the Huernia
that I have would remind you of a porcupine, with almost a pink tinge to it
and then my friend sent me a something like a Duvallia or something. I guess
if I am going to collect them I better get the spelling down, right. Maybe
next spring if you are interested in a little trading ....... I'm always
looking for different and unusual. Well I better quit chatting, I can be
winded when it comes to my plants.
Chat later,
Tracy
