Rhododendruns Outside

Living in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) I decided to try and grow
rhododendruns outside in my container garden. Partly because they are
practically a regional shrub (almost a cliche, in fact) and also because its
nice to have something green outside during the dark, wet winters here. I
also have fairly low-light conditions. (I've found that hostas do nicely as
to begonias and japanese anemomes--impatiens survive but don't bloom
profusely).

I bought rhodies two years ago and put them in containers but now they are
both dying. This may be partly due to the fact I only started to feed them
miracid this year. However, one of them did fine (beautifully, in fact) up
until it was knocked over and its roots disturbed. I didn't think much of it
at the time, but then it went on a fast downhill slide. The other was
looking straggly but was hanging in until it too went on a fast downhill
slide. Out of sympathy?

I haven't given up yet on the idea, though I have on these two. Does anyone
have any suggestions on a variety of rhododendrun that would do well in a
container in mostly shade? I also have a camillia (prima ballerina) that I
would hate to lose. I read that they did well in a container, and I'd like
to make sure I'm taking good care of it so that it doesn't go the way of my
rhodies.
