Could be soil mealie bugs. They're difficult to see because they look like
little white clusters of perlite in the soil. Supposedly they have a flying
phase and can spread that way into the rest of your plants, so it's good you
got rid of them. There's a gal in our African Violet club who had to get
rid of her whole collection because she just couldn't get rid of them. She
was a show grower too, so it really must have hurt for her to do that.
