[miniaturerockgardens] English Horse Troughs

From: Harry Dewey <harryd@Kreative.net>

I ran across this balcony-wall-mounted kind of trough while surfing the
net. I have no connection with "The Windowbox" or its "Balcony Store"
and the prices are not low considering that you get only a wire product
and coconut fiber. But it IS another kind of trough that hasn't been
mentioned on MiniatureRockGardens, nor do I recall ever having heard of
this kind of trough before.

Brookside Gardens, in Wheaton, Maryland, once discarded some heavy-duty
wall-mounted baskets very much like these, but not as wide, and I was
allowed to have two of them. Alas, it never occurred to me to use them
outdoors, and they have been confined to my greenhouse. I think I will
convert one of them to year-round outdoor use for rock garden
miniatures, and will try to report next spring how they survived the
winter. Mine are not wide enough to be described as horse troughs; they
are wall-mounted (flat backed, with a curved front) baskets.

The following description is taken from the web site:
Baskets & Troughs: English Horse Troughs
English Horse Trough Wire Hanging Wall Mounted Basket with Coconut
Liner and Chain: Crafted out of rust-proof vinyl-coated steel that

makes cleaning this Balcony Gardener favorite a snap. Mounts
easily to
any wall or sill. The trough also comes with a thick and hearty
Coconut liner
which will keep dirt and water off your floor, but allows your
plants to maintain
a more steady oxygen and moisture level for your plants' health.
Available
in 24" or 36" in Black. Price: $34.99 to $44.99

Before ordering, I would advise emailing the company asking for depth
and width dimensions in addition to the length information that the site
supplies. And perhaps someone can report other sources for this or
similar types of "troughs".

of Diana's recent setbacks, and hopes she is improving
