Alpine plants in pots

Hi:

Does anyone on this list grow alpine/rockgarden plants exclusively in pots?  If so, please share
your soil type, etc.  I am thinking this may be the best solution for myself and my column readers. 
Haven't found any information about this yet.  Must be a book out there somewhere on this topic.
