Since weight (pardon my spelling from before) is
definitely a problem, how about just painting the
tires with maybe an oil-based paint. You would
have to ask at the paint store if it would work on
tires (are they still rubber or something else
now?).
I really think adding a layer of hypertufa would
add too much weight.
