Dear Monica,
<I'm in Jasper AL zone 7. All of the canes on it are almost black. I
<haven't cut any of them yet so I don't know what they look like on the
<inside, I've just been waiting and hoping so far. My Peppermint Twists
are
<full of blooms, Mr. Lincoln has several buds and my unknown climber is
<about at it's peak. How much longer do you think I should wait before I
<dig it up?
<My husband went ahead and bought me that grandiflora (ain't he sweet?!) so
<if Peace does decide to sprout I'll have to find a place for an extra
rose.
< Oh, what a prediciment, what ever shall I do? ;)
I've have been listening to you delimia
and thought I would respond. My mother
had bought me a Hybrid Tea called
Austrialian Copper, I beleive. I planted it
by my mailbox. I was sure the deer would
get it. By early this year it was "dead" and
black. This last week-end I had the shovel
and was going to give it the "heave hoe" and
replace it with a "found" rose. All the canes
were black and the silly thing had one spout
on the union bud that was pale green and
3 inches long. Well, good greif. So I removed
all the black canes, set it in my rose garden
with good potting soil and water. Silly me,
It was sunshiny and warm for two days and
the poor thing wasn't shaded. It wilted. Oh,
well. That's just room for someone willing to
fight with me. Point is: sometimes there
is no right answer. Sometimes (thought it
is hard for me) it's time to do some serious
"heave hoeing".
What kind of grandiflora did "sweetie" buy?
Sincerely,
Carleen
