Hello fellow rose lovers,
My name is Monica Tittle, I live in Jasper AL zone 7. I have been on the
gardens-l list for what seems like forever and learned about this list there.
My rose collection is rather small I have two Peppermint Twists, one Purple
Tiger, one Peace, one Mr. Lincoln (the "king" of my collection) and two that
are unidentified. The unidentified are rootstock that I just couldn't
religate to the compost pile when a Purple Tiger and a Blue Girl died. The
one that was the root stock to Blue Girl is white and the one to the Purple
tiger seems to be either a rambler or climber in red, having never owned an
example of either, I don't know the difference.
The only problems that I have with my roses is the bane of all Deep South
rose growers, black spot. In June it rained 29 out of 30 days and the
disease almost completely defoliated Mr. Lincoln. Spraying did no good
because as soon as you got everything finished, it would rain and wash the
stuff off. But all of the roses are doing much better now that it has dried
out a little. I didn't have near as many blooms as last year, but I think
that was because all of them but the Peace had been moved from our old place
to where we are now.
I guess that is enough for now. I'm looking forward to hearing from
everyone and hope that I can be of some help to the group.
So long for now,
Monica L. Tittle hstrynut@sonet.net
