In my experience with my 3-4 rugosas, I can't
even hit them with "Miracle Grow" and they
turn yellow (don't know if you have that
product there or not). Anything chemically
seems to me they shun. I just use an organic
rose/flower fertilizer every 6-8 weeks and water
occasionally. Mine seem to be bullet proof!
I have Hansa, Purple Pavement, Therese
Bugnet and Blanc Double de Colbert. I love
their foliage, they usually bloom pretty early,
and Hansa has wonderful hips. Never have
seen an aphid or any disease on any of them in
4-5 years of growing them. And where I live its
WET, east of Portland, Oregon, USA.

I have never had a Rugosa rose before. It looks
so different from other
roses. What is the story about spraying. Does it
need to be sprayed the same
as other roses for diseases, aphids etc?
