Howdy Ray,
I once had a hedge of unknown rugosas (at old home) that even hated
to be watered overhead. So I neglected them and they loved it. One
year I did get ants all over them, and at closer inspection I found
they had scales. Can't spray, so I cut. Eventually I gave that up
too. The scales eventually went away and never showed up on any of
the other roses.
Now I have a Hansa (lovely dark fushia) and a Blanc Double de Colbert
(oh so fragrant, white doubles) both of which I'm very pleased with.
No fuss; just water at the toes.
Sincerely,
Carleen Rosenlund of Rainier, Oregon -USDA-8
