Take hope. Because I live new Heirloom in St.
Paul, Oregon, they have told me that, for
instance, the exclusive rights to Pat Austin
(which I have seen personally in their test
garden and it is the most incredible peach I've
seen -- and the fragrance!) will be available on
the open market next year. So sometimes it
means waiting another year or two to acquire
them, but I found this to be definitely worth
the wait. This year I've had to replace Louise
Odier, a perfectly hardy rose, which was always
puny and pathetic on its own roots in my
garden and finally gave up the ghost in the
most mild winter in several years. No other
explanation as far as I'm concerned, not when I
have 60 other roses doing just fine, mostly on
their own roots.
