I used the pelletized fish emulsion last year and found the release to
be about 4-6 weeks and more front-loaded than I would prefer. It seems
to work about the same alfalfa pellets. The roses were happy with both
used in conjunction with a rich compost, light sprinkle of kelp
meal and a couple of liquid kelp mists.

Epsom salts is highly soluble and releases instantly--usually not a
nice thing for soil microorganisms or groundwater. Sulfate of Potash
Magnesia (Sul-Po-Mg) does the same thing but is slower release.
