Dear Connie,
Sounds like your doing all the right things, and a bloom already,
how wonderful. Isn't the fragrance wonderful.
My Louise Odier is in no way huge, she is just leggy, with flimsy,
pitiful side canes, and longer new canes. I just wasn't sure of
her growth habit. Others that have her assure me she will be a
dense smaller bush.
I'm sure mine is a little stressed, as she does have some blackspot, and the
wind was terrible on her. This weather has been cold and wetter than usual,
I fear we don't get a summer this year, our spring sure was pitiful. I'm
sure
that next year my Louise will be just fine.
I will prune her back in fall (instead of putting her on a pillar, or
pegging
her out) so the wind doesn't wreck such havic on her as it did last fall and
this spring. Often I had to re-stomp the soil about her. She will have a
full more year to get well established too. Yours may well be fine with no
or very little pruning in late winter, as she is a repeat bloomer.
Sincerely,
~Carleen~
