My roses have had a lot of balling (i think that
is what it is called) because be have had rain every
few days. I had a stunning threesome of Mary Rose
that some how slipped through untouched by the rain.
question for the list: Should i expect Mary Rose to produce
more than 3-4 cane per year?
followup: What causes a rose to produce a lot of new
canes?
All of my Hybrid musks have been unphased by the
rain. But Sir Thomas Lipton has been downright ugly
at times (alas, this year it finally had a good quantity of
blooms.)
question for the list: Can i do anything about fading?
e.g. Mary Rose is a medium pink in full sun and seems
to hold its color, while Bonica is a lighter medium pink
in partial shade and it fades faster. Is that a variatal
thing, or can i help them hold their color somehow?
question for the list: anybody have Dortmund that
has a strategy to keep it from growing almost
horizontally? None of the canes grow anywhere
near vertical.
I haven't had much time for roses this year.
just prune, a little feeding and mulch. They're
on their own.
Suggestions please: We have been remodelling
and the porch is almost done. I need ideas for climbers
or ramblers to grow up the East end of the porch.
The bed is only 1 foot deep by about 8 foot long -
really narrow. Something that bloomed most of the
summer with only half day sun would be nice. Few
thorns so sitting on the railing is not uncomfortable.
No pink roses (ho hum to me.) Put your thinking
caps on. I'll put it/them in this fall.
