I finally did it and made my first Rose Beads.
Three of my 'Chianti' (fragrant, once blooming English rose of deep
red/fuchsia that fade to deep dark Purple) was almost done blooming. So I
ripped off the last of the blooming petals (about 2 gallons). Stuffed them
in the blender with just enough water to make a thick slurry. Then cooked
them down. I had stuff to do, so I turned the heat off and on all day,
stirring as they came to a simmer. I didn't have a cast iron pan, so I just
used my stainless steel. By evening the paste had become a soft workable
clay and I rolled them up to twice the size I wanted them, making them the
size of large and small marbles. Poked a pin threw them and set them on
Styrofoam to dry... as they are drying, these ones are becoming a
purplish-black.... Boy did the house smell wonderful. Made 73 beads, and
they should take a week or more to dry. Fun.
They say the dark ones do best... Hum... wonder what hot pink Ispahan blooms
would do.... perhaps I will save them for jam.
Sincerely,
~Carleen~
