Wood ashes are alkiline - so it will depend on whether your soil tends
to be alkiline or acidic if the ashes will help or hinder.....

And roses will do better with at least a few hours of sun plus dappled
shade.  That's like a minimum, even for shade tolerant roses.  Many of
the Albas and Hybrid Musks will tolerate these conditions, but it would
be best to find someone who is growing roses in this type of condition
and see what does well for them.
