While on the subject of soil ammendment for roses, I had posted this to
the list before and received no anwser. But possibly, someone might know
an answer now. I am opening up a new rose bed. The area is around out
"pump house" and apparently had gravel fill brought in. There are a lot
of pebbles in the soil. Also apparently someone at some point emptied
the woods ashes from their wood stove in that area. Now I have lived at
this house for 11 1/2 years and did not throw my wood ashes there so they
have been there at least 12 years. I plan to pH test the soil and will
probably ammend with peat moss and manure. (I have well rotted sheep
manure readily available.) Does anyone know if the wood ashes will be
deterimental or beneficial to the roses? Any other suggestions will be
welcome.
