Re: Welcome to the world of Roses.

If I can get the hang of this, Carleen, I'd like to respond to your rose
questions.
I just recently "got into" roses, having been put off by the care required,
until I
started learning about own-root and rugosas, early this year. I read
voraciously
and hit the internet since - now have just put 13 in and am thrilled to see
how
lovely they are - sources were: Carroll Gardens, Park Seed and Whiteflower
Farm -
all but two looked great - well pruned and rooted and very healthy looking.
Pre-
pared their beds very carefully and have various other perennials nearby. Most
are
shrub roses except for rosa rugosa 'alba' but all but 4 are own-root. Can't
wait to
see how the babies do...

We're in the Chicago area and our winters can be exceptionally windy and cold
so have tried to use Canadian Explorer series where can - Parkland Series
doesn't
do well here due to the humidity nor does one series out of Iowa (just forgot
the name) for same reason.

What is your experience level - do you have any interest in aiding (and
abetting)
a neophyte? They can be such a pain...we pests never stop asking questions.

If Richard Kramer gets this too (I'm still getting my own mail back - very
disconcerting), where does he garden - what kind of roses does he have and
what
level of experience? And does he want to be pestered w/ questions too?

What kind of other perennials does everyone have with their roses? I've got
some
of everything as I think roses look great w/ so many things.

Joanie
