I agree, roses can only improve the perennial border. I have tulips,
daffodils, iris, hollyhocks, peony, lilies, clematis, beebalm, etc growing
with my roses. I find as long as the plants you grow like (or at least
tolerate) acidic soil, they'll do well with the roses.
