Dear Rose Lovers,
I, too notice that this list is slow. My organic gardening list, however,
is quite busy. I was hoping to just lurk here, happily reading others'
posts...I am in Mass, zone 5. I have always loved roses but was never able
to grow them. We move around alot. But last year I broke down and bought
some english roses through J&P on clearance. My Heritage has got fat buds
on it this season; I'm so excited! It is definitely the most vigorous one
of my three (L.D. Braithewaite and the Prince are the others). I don't
spray them nor am I obsessed with weekly feeding schedules. I also have 5
minis. Not much to brag about, but one day when we are finally settled,
I'll be able to put down more roots, literally and figuratively. My
favorite form is the centifolias, but I have to admit the hybrid teas have
a sort of classiness all their own. My dream garden is to be surrounded by
fragrant (I'll pass on the scentless varieties, thank you.) roses of all
sorts, amist herbs, an arbor, and a shaded place away from everyone where I
can read and smell.
This is a busy time for my family. My husband is looking for new
employment (he is sick of military life), my 6 yr old is getting ready for
her first ballet and jazz recital, we are waiting to move (I'll have to dig
up everything in my ,albeit, small garden and take my prcious bin of
compost. Don't tell my husband; he doesn't know yet!), and my almost 3 yr
old son is learning to go on the potty.
I noticed yesterday, on a major shopping strip, many neglected (but
thriving) pink rugosas. Lots of baby ones already in bloom. Am wondering
if I'll get in trouble if I dug one (or two) out. Anyway, hope to hear
more rose ramblings.
