Thanks for your thoughts.

i put the elderberries either side of a garden gate:

but there is plenty of space on either side for a good sized
plant of some sort ... say, how about a rose (i thought).  and
so i was off and running.  but i don't think i want a twelve
footer.  five feet by 4-5' wide would fit nicely.
