[Rose-list] Re: Mme. Hardy

Phillip,

Your combinations sound wonderful and your descriptions heavenly.
Sound great to me.

I have Mme. Plantier which is very similar to Mme. Hardy. (Most
pictures the blooms look the same.) They both have lovely fragrance
and don't mind some shade at times. Plantier will get taller to 12
feet and can nearly climb like my mother's with very lax long canes,
or like mine that was pruned and makes a nice shrub. I love the
delicate foliage of bright green new on bluish green. My own-root
rose is much bigger than my grafted one. Beales book notes that Hardy
gets 5 feet tall and makes a good hedge with bright lime-green
foliage.

All my shrubs (just a few) are small yet and are nearly ''swallowed
up'' by the roses. With some time the shrubs should take their
rightful height fine. (Unless I replace them with more roses.) So
just be sure to give your rose the space it needs.

We have wild elderberries here and they get tall like trees. Husband
wanted to move one into my garden. Guess what's now growing now in my
garden! This one the birds must have brought it in as we were both
clueless, but the foliage sure looked familiar. :-)

Just some thoughts, as it's not really answers.

Sincerely,
~Carleen~
