I'm using mushroom compost until the sheep and llama supply are up. 
Long as it's not too hot.  I here that steer can have too much
salts... but I'm no scientist. Mushroom compost, fish emulsion and
bonemeal in the rose holes has been working wonderfully for me. It's
a jungle out there.
