RE: [Rose-list] rose/plant theft

Oh Elle,

It must be Oregon, for sure. I have had similar things happen. I see it as
the really deeper problem of our society as a whole -- no respect for others
or their property. When I was brought up in the 60's, we were taught you
didn't even WALK on someone else's grass unless you were invited in.

I have a 70 x 7 bed outside my fenceline. I "solved" the problem by
planting mostly things that "bite back" like roses, barberry, globe thistle,
etc. I do have other plants that aren't stickery, but I haven't noticed
anything terrible missing as of yet.

But I also have many plants along my fence line to soften it and for
privacy. Just two weeks ago four teenagers walked by, ripped some flower
from the fence and was singing to her cohorts "I have a flower."

I ran over there and said, excuse me, that was very rude. Those are not
your flowers, they are my flowers. If you'd have asked I would have shared,
but you did not ask. One threw a "sorry" over their shoulder, but mostly
they were going to blow me off.

As I said, no respect for others or their property.
Of course I'm out there A LOT too.

For mine is a little old fashioned garden where the flowers come
together to praise the Lord and teach all who look upon them to do
likewise.
