Me again, Joanie...
Honestly, I'm not that impressed with the Rugosa roses, though I do like
them okay and Hansa is always wonderful, sometimes they can get leggy.
As for Albas or good Foliage roses...OH... lets see... :-)
One of my favorite roses is 'Mme.Plantier' shes a wonderful thing, prettiest
in the garden when not in bloom and even more wonderful when in bloom.
Deadheading can be a chore, but often I just look the other way until they
all drop to the ground and then next batch of blooms come rushing in a few
days or so later. Though it's an old once blooming rose, it has several
splashes of lovely white blooms that continue for about 5-6 weeks, depending
on weather conditions and age of the rose.
Oh the blooms!... they are PERFECT in my eye... rather to the small side and
FULL of petals that start as a small slight cup and fold out to a flat,
sweetly scented (most wonderful, sweet honey and baby powder to me) with a
slight button eye... every blossom a treasure, and she puts out TONS of
them.
The buds are darling things that are formed singly along long canes with
pretty fancy sepals. As they open, you think you might have the wrong rose,
as they first show white and lots of nearly burgandy or rust color! Most
darling.
She's a HUGE rose with long flowing, graceful canes. My oldest shrub is 4
years old and I have a 3 and 2 year old plant. She starts very easy and
I've started plenty this year. With careful pruning (and moved 3 times) my
4 year old shrub is 3+ dozen canes at the base taking up about 18", comes up
to a vase shape (I prune carefully any whimp or dead small canes that are
below) she then lays out and spread to about a 7 foot spand. I suspect she
will contiune to about 10 feet or more, which makes me happy too.
I found this picture of her blooms on-line...

I have a picture too if you would like to see it, but not a bloom close up,
just the shrub taking over other plants and in full bloom, but not very
clear. You will have to request the picture from me private, as our list
doesn't support attachments if I remember correctly.
