Bringing in the Sans

Annee,

Well, there's nothing very scientific about it...

By the time night-time temps are consistently between 45 and 50, I
finally stop procrastinating and bring all the pots inside. I have some
shelves set up next to a south-facing sliding glass door, and that's
where everything spends the winter--plenty of light, even some direct
sunlight. I try to keep the house no warmer than 72 during the day
(although sometimes we light a fire in the fireplace and it warms up
more than that), and no cooler than 50 at night. I usually water the
sans about every 3-4 weeks--give them a thorough soaking and then let
them dry out almost completely--and have never had a problem with rot.
No fertilizer till they go outside again in the spring.

In a typical year, this means living in a living room jungle for about
five months--mid-October through mid-March--and it also means I have to
be careful about how many plants I collect!

You mentioned that you keep some plants outside year-round. Any
specific varieties? How cold did you say you get? Mid-20's? And how
much water do you give them during the cold weather?

Alas, we're not too green or blue around here in the summer... mostly
just brown.
