Re: I.d.'s

Hi Tom and all,

I also have "Kenya #1", as well as "Bally 30", "suffruticosa banded form",
"Dimples" (from Hermine), and Bally 12681. As far as I am concerned, they
are all the same thing. They're all banded, have longitudinal lines on the
back of the leaves, and produce aerial stolons. Bally 30 seems to be the
smoothest, suffruticosa banded form the roughest, and Dimples seems to
produce more leaves per growth. But the differences are not great enough to
separate them as species or even varieties. Further, they all bloom at the
same time (although I have not compared the flowers...I will this year). I
am inclined to agree with Steve that they are all variant forms of
suffruticosa, but I will compare the flowers with that species when it blooms
next.

I recently pulled my big, old, rambling suffruticosa out of the far corner of
the greenhouse where it has resided undisturbed (alright, I'll admit
it.......and unloved) for ten years. The old plants looked like hell, all
scorched and yellow and beat up, but there were several generations of
wandering offsets that looked pretty good. I've cut them all off and planted
them together in a big shallow pot, so I expect they'll get happy once again.
Then we can compare the flowers.

Cheers!
Kirk
