Dear Juan,
I agree. There are several other aliases for Sansevieria kirkii var.
pulchra 'Coppertone' in the trade but they are not valid according to the
"Cultivated Code". Words like "form" or "variety" and Latin epithets are no
longer allowed for use for the names of cultivars since January 1, 1959
(articles 27, 30, 31).
The earliest valid publication of Sansevieria kirkii var. pulchra
'Coppertone' I have found is in Alan Butler's (1998) article in the British
Cactus & Succulent Journal 16 (2): 100, fig. Has it appeared elsewhere in
print?

The dark green leaves are wavy edged and spotted with copper, light tan
and
green. Nice plants.$6.50 cv. = Sans.kirkii var. pulchra 'Coppertone'
Who is the originator of the cultivar name 'Coppertone' and what is its
origin? Did it originate from the wild, was it a chance mutation or was it
a selected seedling?

The above name is invalid for several reasons:
1) The name of the botanical variety is incorrectly stated. The correct
name
is: Sansevieria kirkii var. pulchra
2) Cultivars should be written in single quotes.
3) The word "form" does not appear to be correctly used-
4) The description of the plant is not correct. The base color is
blackish-green, not dark green and there is no green blotching but rather
copper. Even in the humid Florida climate, this plant keeps its copper
blotching.
5) The dark green lines, the most important character of this plant is not
mentioned.
I am the one who gave it the cultivar name of S. kirkii var pulchra
'Coppertone', since I deemed it to be a more appropriate one.
So the former should be a synonym of the latter and not vice-versa.
Again, the plant appears to have been collected in the field. To the best
of
my knowledge nobody has reported a flowering of this plant.
Both names above could be superseded when a botanical variety of it is
described.
