Dear Kirk,
Thanks for the picture of the mysterious Sansevieria sp. Lavranos #24534.
It is difficult to tell from a picture of such a young plant, but my first
impression is that it may be intermediate (a hybrid?) between Sans.rorida
(short thick leaves) and the broad leafed Sans. sp. aff. arborescens
(spiralled green leaves and caulescent). Or it could be just another form of
the broad leafed Sans. sp. aff. arborescens. It is definitely not
Sans.rorida. It makes one even more curious as to its wild origin in Somalia
and its relationship with other species in the region. It is really not very
suggestive of a juvenile Sans.robusta to me because one would not expect the
latter to be that caulescent at such a young age. It does bring to mind more
questions than answers.
For comparison, there are photos of the broad leafed Sans. sp. aff.
arborescens (Lavranos 23251) in the Sansevieria Journal (3 (1): 21, fig. 2
(1994) & 4 (2): 75, fig. 1 (1995)) and of Sans.rorida (Lavranos 23154)
(Sansevieria Journal 4 (1): 37, fig. 1; 4 (2): 76, figs. 2-3 (1995)) &
(Lavranos 23326) (Sansevieria Journal 5 (1): 17, fig. (1996)).

Here is a link to a photo of Sans. sp. Lavranos #24534. I'm sorry it's a
little too close, but you can see its chubby leaves and the beginnings of
its spiralling growth habit.
