Hi All,
Just managed to get myself over to the greenhouse to check out the
collection for purple sheaths after Hermine's comment. No, no purple
sheaths on anything but S.sulcata (thanks for putting us right again
Steve). I suspect growing things in California, you get much better colours
than in dull and dark Western Europe.
I did however notice two species have a definate purple tinge to the
leaves, especially towards the base - S.grandis, and S.sp.'Sudwalla Caves'.
The latter was especially strongly coloured even in our shady greenhouse.
The colour of scales on rhizomes has nothing to do with the light
naturally.
