Re: Faye's plant

Dear Juan,

Don't hesitate to answer any question posted wheter you are asked directly
or not. Everyone welcomes you answers and opinions on Sansevierias. You've
been away from your computer and out of the country so frequently, we just
don't know when you have had the time to answer questions.

*************************************

The type locality for Sansevieria parva N.E. Brown is in Kenya, of course.

Knowing the history of the plant has greatly increased its significance for
the grower. Do the rest of you agree?

My suggesting the plant might have been Sansevieria aethiopica was only a
bad guess on my part. I had not seen the plant myself.

Are there any photos of Sansevieria parva 'Chahinian A-15' (a.k.a.
Chahinian 549, HBG 71770) in the Sansevieria Journal? You did mention seeing
Sans.parva at the type locality growing together with Sans.suffruticosa
during your trip to Kenya in 1992 (Sansevieria Journal 2 (4): 82 (1993)) but
collection numbers were not mentioned.

Horst Pfennig and Werner Rauh had also collected those species at that
locality. So there may be equivalent collections with still other collector
numbers floating around, especially in Europe.

In the article by Paul Mbugua (Sansevieria Journal 3 (3): 59-62, 3 figs.
(1994)) other collections of Sans.parva made by him in other localities are
illustrated.

The question remains how many different documented clones of Sansevieria
parva N.E. Brown (including Sans.dooneri N.E. Brown) are there floating
around in cultivation?

Yes, I know.
Though I try not to answer questions that are not asked to me.
Chahinian A-15, is Chahinian No. 549.
I collected it 12 Mar. 1982 on the river banks of the Gilgil river, in
semi-shade, below the Tarmak bridge, near Ilkek Station. (the latter is a
toll station).
The site is the type locality of Sansevieria parva, thereby making this
plant
valuable for study.

Cheers,

Juan
