Dear Kirk,
I believe it to be yet another collection of Sansevieria rorida that John
Lavranos made in eastern Somalia. Sans.rorida is the smallest growing
species in the Sans.ehrenbergii group.
It is interesting to note that Peter Bally did compare his Sansevieria
pinguicula Bally to Sans.rorida (Lanza) N.E. Brown in the original
description of the former. Sans.pinguicula is very different from the
Sans.ehrenbergii group by having spiralled leaves and by producing runners.
Please check out this previous posting regarding the Grigsby's 1999
offerings for more info on Lavranos 24534 listed as Sans.powellii.

Sansevieria powellii N.E. Brown originates from eastern Kenya and is
believed to be a natural hybrid between Sans.arborescens Cornu and
Sans.robusta N.E. Brown. It is a caulescent species intermediate between the
presumed parents in its appearance.

Does anyone have any information about sp. Lav. 24534?
Madelyn Lee at Grigsby's says that it is S. powellii, but I don't think so.
It does not resemble the plants depicted in vol.3, no.1 of The Sansevieria
Journal. The leaves are much shorter and stouter. It resembles an overgrown
pinguicula, but is more caulescent.
Do you know, Juan?
Thanks.
Kirk
