Thanks for the lead John.
I searched through the dusty archives and located the January 8, 1998
posting in which Juan, in a reply to Diana, stated that Bally 30 was indeed
no more than a renaming of Bally 12681. Now if only we can locate habitat
data on this now famous, unnamed plant. All I can infer is that it
originates from somewhere in Kenya. The names Sans.ballyi and Sans.ballii,
sometimes given to this plant, are unpublished and invalid. The plant was
collected by Peter R. O. Bally.
It was me that said it was closest to Sansevieria suffruticosa var.
longituba Pfennig but with obviously much smaller leaves. Juan questions
the status of Sans. suffruticosa var. longituba but does agree that Bally
12681 is allied to Sans.suffruticosa, whatever its ultimate status may be.
Please, refer to the archive of December 1998 for the discussion.
I hope we can clear up many more nomenclatural and numerical Sansevieria
problems in this new year!
Cereusly, Steve.
