Re: [SANS] Sansevieria aubrytiana??

Dear Kirk,

Interesting suggestion but I would say no based on the available information.

The reason being because Gerome & Labroy (1903) in their key to the species specifically state that Sans. fasciata Cornu does not have a brown edge (ie. bicolor margin). That feature immediately puts it in the Sanseviera trifasciata group together with such species as Sans. grandicuspis and Sans. senegambica. Sans.fasciata Cornu is said to originate from the Congo, which had since become Zaire and is now once again the Congo.

John had stated the plant he has as Sansevieria aubrytiana? does have a bicolor leaf margin. That makes one look for its identity in the Sans. hyacinthoides group instead.

Could the plant in question be S. fasciata?
