is deeper than anywhere in Australia! Lyn is probably the most southerly
collector of cacti and succulents in the world, and she lives in
Invercargill, at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand. Lyn, we are
working on the seed problem, so don't despair. Those that have been
confiscated so far have come from commercial seed suppliers and probably
are labelled as such, so anything sent with a personal letter might get
through ok. The problem is that our authorities have switched from a
"forbidden" list to an "allowed" list, and their "allowed" list is very
deficient (they didn't, of course, ask the experts before producing it!).
This "allowed" list is also species rather than genus based, so we have to
fight for every single seed we want to import. But - WE WILL WIN! "she
says, confidently".
It has been very warm so far here in Wellington, New Zealand (not so "deep"
south), and not a sign of a frost. We haven't even had to turn on heaters
in the house yet. Yesterday I saw people walking around in shorts and
t-shirts. But no doubt we will suffer soon.
Regards to all
